The Newport Youth Project is a partnership between Churches Working Together in Newport and Isle Of Wight Youth for Christ. Peter, our main youth leader, along with a team of volunteers and different churches run various different groups for ages 10-18 in the Newport area.

In 2024 Churches Working Together In Newport partnered with Isle of Wight Youth for Christ to employ a youth ministry worker for the town of Newport. The project is funded by contributions from Newport churches and external giving. Representatives from different churches in Newport form the steering committee which meets several times a year to help support, pray and manage the project. Churches may help by contributing their buildings, staff/volunteer time, finances and committing to pray for the young people in the town of Newport.

The project exists to work alongside and support the Newport churches/ministries in their existing youth work and to create more opportunities for young people to find Jesus. This is done in a variety of ways, including school/sixth form work, after school clubs and evening groups – as well as detached/outreach events and larger gatherings; joining in with the larger work of Youth for Christ on the island.

The project is run by a steering team made up from representitives from the partner churches.
These representitives should have good communications with their minister regarding the project.
The team meets approximately four times a year and oversees the project, making decisions and working in close relationship close with the CWTN minisrers and reps, allowing vision for the project to flow in all directions.

Project FAQ

Project Lead: Peter Herman

As a youth worker, I am passionate about seeing young people come to Jesus and cultivate a real relationship with God that impacts the world around them. With a heart for discipleship and evangelism, I love the idea of seeing youth becoming disciples/leaders that then go on to make more disciples.
